Interactive Therapeutic Environment - Jewish General Hospital Montreal
2016
How can a healing environment be fostered in a psychiatric ward? According to Mette Terp Høybye, healing does not result from physical surroundings alone but from the interaction between space, people, and practice. In psychiatric settings, creating a healing environment therefore involves integrating architectural space with therapeutic activities and patient engagement.
Visual Wall is an interactive painting system designed to support occupational therapy. Painting allows patients to express emotions, reduce anxiety, and participate creatively. In this prototype, patients paint on a digital canvas through hand movements in the air.
The system connects a computer, Leap Motion motion sensor, projector, and screen. A program written in Java translates hand gestures into specific colors and brushstrokes that appear on the projected canvas, allowing patients to create artwork through movement.
The experience also includes sound interaction: music plays while the patient paints and stops when the movement ends, creating a responsive, multisensory environment that encourages engagement and relaxation.
War Memorial- Coronation Park- Toronto
2011
The Iran–Iraq War left profound and lasting experiences for many children who lived through that period. This project responds to that history through the design of a war memorial environment intended to evoke reflection on the realities of war and the fragility of peace.
The memorial is conceived as a spatial journey composed of contrasting environments representing war and peace. As visitors move through these areas, the shifting atmospheres invite reflection on the tension between destruction and harmony, prompting questions about human desire, conflict, and the conditions that shape collective memory.
The proposed memorial is situated within the predesigned landscape of Coronation Park on Lake Shore Boulevard West in Toronto. Additional details regarding the spatial conditions and conceptual framework can be found in the War Memorial – Situation section.
Technical drawings were produced using AutoCAD, and visual site representations were developed in Adobe Photoshop.
York Major Medical Center - Vaughan - Ontario
2018-2019
Over 48,000 sq ft of commercial space divided over four stories and with 55 individual and unique offices, this project was designed with the end user in mind. The intention was to create a modern medical clinic reflecting well being and advanced science. This was accomplished by going back to the basics, inspired by the organic compounds, simplicity, and functionality of Scandinavian design.
